After practicing as a litigator in Wisconsin Kat joined LexisNexis and spent most of the next 10 years selling eDiscovery software throughout the Midwest. In 2017 Kat was presented with an opportunity to join Special Counsel, providing her with the ability to truly act as a consultant with one of the largest end to end providers in the industry. For any who have worked with Kat in the past, you’d know her strength resides in partnering with customers to learn, problem solve, find efficiencies, and achieve strong work product. Partnering with clients fuels Kat’s motivation to continue to learn, grow and network in the ever-evolving eDiscovery landscape. Kat is an alumnus of Marquette Law School and maintains her law license in Wisconsin.
Alayne Russom received her Bachelor of Science and paralegal certification from the UW – Superior and held several legal roles in both Minnesota and Wisconsin -- from legal assistant, to office manager, to senior paralegal. Her journey brought her to Thrivent in 2005 where she landed a job as a senior paralegal. In 2013, she took on a new role managing the Code of Conduct Program. Alayne’s passion for reducing spend, increasing predictability and achieving better outcomes allowed her job roles to change over time. In 2019, she landed her dream job as the Director of General Counsel’s Office Operations at Thrivent. In this role, Alayne oversees administrative support, the employee and field sales members dispute resolution programs, outside counsel management, continuous improvement initiatives, and electronic discovery.
Beth has been a leader with Humana for over 40 years. Originally from Wisconsin she moved to Louisville in 2001 as part of a merger and acquisition of Employers Health Insurance. After spending nearly 15 years in Kentucky she returned back to Wisconsin to help her aging parents and be Nana to 3 wonderful grandchildren because it takes a village. Beth has been part of InfraGard for numerous years serving on the Board of Directors in both Kentucky and Wisconsin. While in Kentucky she served on the board as Secretary for approximately six years, she was also the Sector Chief for the State of Kentucky. While in Wisconsin, the FBI approached her and asked that she begin a new Wisconsin Chapter of InfraGard and serve on the Board of Directors holding the position of Vice President and President.
Erik Van Buren
Erik Van Buren is an Operations Technical Analyst in the General Counsel's Office at Thrivent, responsible for e-Discovery, investigations and digital forensics. Erik is CEDS certified and lives in Northeast Wisconsin.

Adam Cares is a Litigation Technology Specialist at Godfrey & Kahn in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and has been with the firm since 2002. He is responsible for and co-manages Godfrey & Kahn’s firmwide Litigation Support Department and eDiscovery work from case inception through trial including ESI protocols, custodial interviews, data collections, data processing, search protocols, analytics, document reviews, third party vendor management, document productions and hot seat work at trial. He is also a member of the firms Innovation & Technology committee and Professional Development committee.
Leslie A. Melo is an attorney out of the Chicago office of Redgrave LLP and focuses her practice on matters concerning eDiscovery and information law. Her work includes drafting and negotiating ESI protocols, drafting legal briefs on eDiscovery related issues, interfacing with IT professionals, drafting search protocols, overseeing large document review projects, and working on complex litigation matters.

Lynn Gompper is a Senior Litigation Paralegal and eDiscovery Specialist at Johnson Controls in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Lynn graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor of Science in Paralegal Studies. She earned her Registered Paralegal Certification from the National Federation of Paralegal Associations in 2008 and became CEDS certified in 2017. With almost 20 years of experience, Lynn works on JCI’s insured litigation and manages eDiscovery for the legal department. Dedicated to using technology to create efficient and cost effective solutions, Lynn works on eDiscovery initiatives including protocols for managing data workflow and maintaining best practices relating to litigation technology.

Melissa Johnson is a Discovery Specialist at Michael Best & Friedrich in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Melissa graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Bachelor of Business Administration. She became CEDs certified in 2017 and in 2019 became a Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA). At Michael Best, Melissa works with the internal litigation teams and Relativity vendors on the discovery process. She has assisted at trials presenting exhibits electronically.
